Earning money
I am now teaching full time for a few weeks to earn some money. Not getting much writing or song transcribing done!! Bit frustrating.
Book signing Borders Stockton
On Saturday 28th March Ian and I set off to the retail park on teeside. We estimated that we might sell as many books as we did in Gateshead. It was a rainy day and I wondered if the weather affected the shoppers.
The staff in Borders were absolutely lovey. Helen was the events manager and she looked after us briliantly. Other staff too were so friendly. Had a very ineresting discussion on Christianity v Paganism with one!
The selling went brilliantly. Loads of children and a great location at the top of the stairs in the children's department. Met some great people. A dramatic lady who talked for ages! A lady who bought a copy for her mother! And some great children including Lola, Olivia and Amber who wrote me stories and emailed them to me.
We sold 28 books and they took 16 for stock. We left on a real high and are arranging to go back again.
I love doing it with Ian. He's a real encouragement to me and very good at teaching me how to approach people and start talking.

Lumley Junior School Workshop
On Friday 27th March I went back to my old junior school in Lumley to do some workshops with year 5. We had a great time thinking about characterisation through drama and photofit characters. The children were fascinated by stories of old teachers and the cane too! They did some wonderful drama and hot-seating based on scenes from My Wicked Stepmother and asked me lots of great questions about writing.
For me it was wonderful to go back to my old school and remember how I used to day dream, looking out of the window on balmy summer days, imagining the fairies who lived at the bottom of our field. Well, it was better than maths and listening to Mr. Fredrikson droning on! Also, the windows seemed a lot higher in those days.
